First Light

I haven't been able to go out and shoot recently. Did some housekeeping on my files and folders and came across this little gem. Processed it from RAW and here it is.

Fog owns the land in the absence of the sun. The first ray of the sunlight arrives, cutting through the fog like a hot knife through butter.

Camdapter QR adapter.

If you use a hand strap and are not using a Canon camera, you will understand my pain. Most hand straps require the use of the tripod thread at the bottom of the camera. I've used one from Matin before, and I have to screw a platform onto the bottom of the camera. The version I was using came with another screw thread for my tripod quick release plate but is slightly off center. Once I attach my QR plate, the profile is pretty thick making the camera quite unstable when placed on a flat surface, not to mention the risk of the stability of the camera on the tripod.

I've tried looking around for a solution to this and found that Arca style QR plates are available with slots on both sides of the plate to allow for hand straps and normal neck strap on each side. Problem is, I am using the Manfrotto 488RC2 ball head. I searched all over the net and stumbled on an adapter made by this company called Camdapter. Camdapter offered 2 Manfrotto style plates and I ordered the Manfrotto Plus adapter and it arrived today. I am extremely pleased with it. The adapter is made of aluminium and the build is just fantastic. The top-grain leather handstrap is also made very well and the leather is thick and tough. Check out the pictures below to see how it works, installed on my D90. Kudos to Camdapter for the great products and great service.

Lackluster sunrise

Taken: Oct 24th 2009.
Location: Lower Seletar Reservoir Park, Singapore

Was really busy with all the stuff that is going on right now and finally have a breather to shoot a sunrise. Called up Long and we headed down to Lower Seletar reservoir to catch the daybreak. The one that greeted us was an unenthusiastic sunrise, even though I would hesitate to call it bad too. It was one of 'those', you know, that was neither glorious nor doggy. Anyway here are some of the pictures.

#1 - The quiet jetty

#2 - Black and white to fall back on if the colors ain't great.

#3 - The sun finally peeks out of the clouds.

Re-visited Marina Barrage again in the morning. I've been there quite a number of times but it was always crowded with photographers and other folk. This particular morning was very different. Apart from a pair of love birds and a security guard, all there to see the sunrise, there were no one else. Strange for an early Saturday morning. It was one of the most peaceful sunrises I have ever seen, Sometimes we all need a break from the crowds. Here are some pics from this morning. Enjoy!

I missed processing a picture taken a while back. Taken a couple of months ago, this picture turned out to be one of the nicest of the series. This picture is dedicated to the memory of the dearly departed D40x, which was the camera that took this picture.

Headed out to the zoo a couple of days back. Thought it would be interesting as my wife has never been there and the last time I had was almost 30 years ago. Moonlight, trees and the city

Taken: Sep 5th, 2009.

Went out on a early morning shoot at Lower Pierce reservoir. It was drizzling for quite a bit of time. I managed only one good shot when the rain stopped. We went joy riding after breakfast and went to explore some new places. Found some interesting sites but we will need to return to get better pictures.

In the evening I went to Esplanade with my wife and shot the cityscape at sunset. The following are the landscape pictures. I will post the potraits at a later date.

#1 - Moonlit reflections @ Lower Pierce reservoir.

#2 - Trees @ Pulau Punggol Timor.

#3 - The City. Shot from Esplanade.

#4 - Singapore cityscape @ night.
